Space Age Metal: New Titanium Alloys Near 'Magic' Strength Threshold
Takashi Saito, of the Toyota Central R&D Lab, and crew have created titanium-based alloys that have ultrahigh strength and super elasticity. First uses will probably be in space, but surely something like this would make a great alloy for a car (think preventing assassinations) or possibly as support for buildings (especially in 'quake-prone areas where a little sway would go a long way).
