I just now rated the last unrated song in my iTunes collection. That's 2,008 songs, or 5.4 days worth of music (although I'm sure I listened a lot more than that, since I'm terrible about rating music).
Whew.

I find that 2.5 things help me with the ratings.
1) I keep a smart playlist of songs without ratings and periodically make a ratings pass.
2) I will often bulk-rate a particular album, giving everything the same rating. Just use shift to make a contiguous selection and Command-I to bring up the information window for multiple songs. Anything you change will affect every song in the selection, while other fields will be left alone.
2a) Since ratings are easy to change, I don't worry about getting everything exactly right on the first try.
It is because you introduced me to the art of the Smart Playlist that I was able to do this at all.
Many thanks!
