How hot?

I was walking home from the movies yesterday afternoon (a very short walk here in Oakland), and I suddenly had one of those nostalgia moments brought on by environment and smells in the air: I was ten years old, at the pool on Bolling AFB, DC, eating a soft-serve ice cream cone....

For you west-coasters, the hot outside is approximately what it's like in DC through most of the summer. That's how hot it is.

And people wonder why I don't miss the East Coast.

Oh, the movie? Lady in the Water, which is set in Philly in the summer. It's an M. Night Shyamlan film, so the critics are already going nuts tearing it apart, but the truth is it's an utterly enjoyable movie. Yoko and I were on the edge of our seats through the last half hour, and Paul Giamatti is such a superb and likable shlub. Also, Shyamalan has a message for his critics straight out of 50 Cent. Neat.
