This time, I was mucking about with a coworker, and he smacked my hand aside with his elbow. On first looking at the tip, it looked crooked, so I pulled it back in line and went to the infirmary. They splinted it, gave me ice, told me to keep it elevated (which, btw, is what ICE stands for in the EMT world: Ice, Compression, Elevation), and told me to see a doctor if it doesn't unswell in a few days.
To put it in perspective, my finger has not assumed the pickle shape/size my ring finger did when I broke that one while trapezing, and the hand is not throbbing like it did when I broke it on the wall, so perhaps I just dislocated the tip. Or not. Either way, dumb, dumb, dumb, and a sad recovery period.
