The Supreme Court put out their opinion on DC v. Heller (940kb pdf) today.
In essence, the majority, headed by Scalia, said you can have a reasonable loaded gun in your house without a trigger lock, so long as you meet reasonable licensing requirements.
To be honest, this is fine by me. I'm not anti-gun and never have been. (I am anti-stupidity, though, and while it might be your constitutional right to have a gun without a trigger lock, my kids, when they're old enough, are not going to your house. Doesn't matter that, statistically, pools cause more harm; I'm not taking the chance.) Let's remember, though, what this does _not_ guarantee:
-- Concealed Carry
-- Open Carry
-- Assault Weapons
-- Guns in schools or government buildings
-- Felons or the mentally ill with guns
-- Your right to a license to own a gun if you don't meet licensing requirements
Fair enough.
