Goodbye, Geocities

Tech Crunch reports that Yahoo (who bought Geocities back when money came with URLs printed on it) has decided to pull the plug on Geocities.

Confession: my first website was at Athens/2690 way back in the early/mid-90s; it was a paltry thing, but then again, so was the Web in general. I cut my teeth on HTML there, before all of those GUI, WYSIWYG tools for creating pages and such, building tables and frames by hand. Heady days, amigos. It was fun, though I never really got all of that community crap they were peddling.

Ah, well. Files downloaded, archived, and erased; farewell, old friend.
